Bharatiya Janata Party’s State co-spokesperson Malavika Avinash has termed the episode of three Ministers watching a porn clip in the Legislative Assembly and the alleged involvement of Ministers in atrocities on women during the BJP government as “things of the past”.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, Ms. Avinash said the BJP leadership initiated action against such Ministers by dropping them from the Cabinet.

However, when asked why the same leaders were given ticket to contest the Assembly elections, she said those were things of the past and she would speak only about the Lok Sabha elections.

She said the BJP’s manifesto had several programmes for women. Based on these promises, the party was appealing to women to vote for the BJP and make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister.

Ms. Avinash claimed that the country would prosper under Mr. Modi’s leadership. The BJP’s manifesto had programmes for the country’s progress and the welfare of all communities, she said.

To a query, she said though the BJP Mahila Morcha had sought ticket to women candidates from seven constituencies in the State, the party leadership had fielded only one woman.

She said there was no point in raking up the issue as the election process was under way. Ms. Avinash said she was confident that under Mr. Modi’s leadership women would get better representation not only within the party but also in other spheres.
