Party demands release of Hemavathi water to district

The bandh called by Tumakuru city unit of Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday demanding the State government to release Hemavathi water to Tumakuru district evoked lukewarm response.

BJP workers staged a protest at the Town Hall Circle. They said the district has been reeling under drought for the past few years and there is severe drinking water problem in Tumakuru city and in 10 taluks of the district.

Only a few shops, hotels, and other commercial establishments were closed; most of the commercial establishments remained open. Schools and colleges too were open and government offices and banks functioned normally.
