The State-wide bandh called against the delay in implementing the Mahadayi project received poor response in Vijayapura, while it was largely successful only in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district on Thursday.

Interestingly, Hungund taluk, which is one of the beneficiaries of Mahadayi project along with Badami, gave a lukewarm response to the bandh call.

In Vijayapura, expect a couple of schools that declared holiday voluntarily, no other educational institutions declared holiday. Buses, private vehicles, business establishments, banks and government offices functioned as usual.

Since the district administration did not declare a holiday, there was no effect on schools.

According to sources, the Transport Department allowed government buses operating from Vijayapura to Hubballi to run only till Gaddankeri Cross of Bagalkot.

Since the situation was tense in Hubballi and Gadag, the department took this decision as a safety measure.

In Bagalkot, only Badami taluk witnessed a good response as all shops, business establishments, schools and colleges remained closed.
