Poll official dies of cardiac arrest in Belgaum

Voting enthusiasm turned into mourning for while following death of a polling officer at polling station number 155 in Miralkudi locality under Mugalkhod police station limits in Raibag taluk. The polling station falls in Kudachi assembly constituency.

Bashirsaab Maulasaab Jahiri (52) suffered a massive cardiac arrest inside the polling station between 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and collapsed on the spot, official sources told The Hindu . The deceased was a Group-D employee and serving as Secretary at Gram Panchayat, Gudas of Gokak taluk. He was a resident of Yadwad village of Gokak taluk.

Assistant Commissioner and Chikkodi Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rudresh Ghali rushed to the spot. The body was being sent to his native Yadwad for last rites.

Polling was restored with additional staff provided by the Sector Officer, who rushed to the polling station on being informed about the incident.
