The Bharatiya Janata Party candidates were found acting in violation of the model code of conduct of the Election Commission once again when diaries with the name of party’s candidate in the Karnataka North-West Graduates’ constituency, Nirani Hanmant Rurappa, were found distributed free to the voters here on Monday.

Tahsildar Preetam Nasalapure, who on a tip-off rushed to the Sangolli Rayanna First Grade College in Autonagar in the city at 1.45 p.m., seized 52 diaries. The diaries were supplied to the graduates and teachers engaged in evaluation work related to degree examinations at the college.

Mr. Nasalapure told The Hindu that on verification of the matter in the presence of Inspector of Malamaruti Police Station, the supply of diaries was found in violation of the model code, as the diaries carried the name of Mr.Nirani. Incidentally, Mr. Nirani is an advocate by profession.

The Tahsildar lodged a complaint with the police for further action.

So far, three cases had been registered against BJP and its candidates for violation of the model code. The first was registered for serving food at the teachers, graduates and party workers’ convention held at Gandhi Bhavan in the city on the sidelines of the party candidates filing their nominations on May 18. The second case was registered when Mr.Nirani and the party’s sitting MLC Arun Shahpur seeking re-election from Karnataka North-West Teachers’ constituency allegedly arranged food for teachers and graduates along with party workers at a meeting at Dharamnath Bhavan in the city on May 23.
