On a tip-off, a team monitoring the implementation of the model code of conduct seized four vessels containing “Dum Biriyani” (a popular non-vegetarian delicacy of Bellary) prepared at Rukmini Chengareddy Old Age Home, owned by the Reddy brothers, on Belagal Road here on Thursday.
The team found that a large quantity of Biriyani was being prepared and a shamiana (pandal) had been put up under which the delicacy was to be served to voters from neighbouring Rayadurga Assembly constituency in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
Enquires by the poll officials revealed that MLA and BJP candidate B. Sriramulu had reportedly arranged for the lunch on behalf of K. Ramachandra Reddy, YSR Congress candidate contesting in Rayadurga.
Voters from D. Hirehal, Siddapuram, Malapanagudi and surrounding villages of Andhra Pradesh had come all the way here in 28 vehicles to relish the delicacy but could not lay their hands on it as the model code of conduct was still in force.
All the 28 vehicles and the shamiana were seized.
Based on a complaint from the team, Bellary (Rural) police have registered a case.
