The Mysore City police are set to launch a Student Police Cadet programme to inculcate discipline and respect for law among students.

Commissioner of Police M.A. Saleem said in a release that the unique project is a development initiative that will train high school students.

The programme will help infuse discipline and respect for the law, and empathy for the vulnerable sections of society.

Mr. Saleem said the project also enables youth to explore and develop their innate capabilities, thereby empowering them to resist the growth of negative tendencies such as social intolerance, substance abuse and deviant behavior. Equally, it strengthens within them a commitment towards their family, community, and environment, he added.

The project will use the existing network, infrastructure and leadership qualities of the police to supplement physical, mental and educational development of youth.

The project is expected to enable school communities to create a safe environment and repose confidence in the youth to react against social evils and find solutions to problems.

Associating with the police will also help parents and community leaders to work with the police in creating a safer society, said Mr. Saleem.

Launch in August

The project will be launched in August and high schools willing to participate may contact Shivanna, Deputy Commissioner of Police, C.A.R, on 0821-2418303 or 9480802204 for details.
