The 3rd Judicial Magistrate First Class on Monday allowed police to take into their custody till June 30 Naresh Shenoy, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.

Naresh Shenoy, the founder of Yuva Brigade, has been accused of hatching the plan to murder 51-year-old Baliga on March 21. After a prolonged search, police arrested him on Sunday. He has been named as accused No.1 in the case in which six other accused have been arrested.

A team of policemen led by Assistant Commissioner of Police K.Tilakchandra produced Naresh Shenoy before the 3rd JMFC court after subjecting him to medical examination at the Government Wenlock Hospital. Mr. Tilakchandra filed an application seeking custody of Shenoy for seven days.

After confirming from Shenoy that police had not harassed him since Sunday morning, the Magistrate granted police custody of Shenoy till June 30. The Magistrate did not pass any orders on another plea of police seeking further custody of Srikant, a close aide of Naresh Shenoy, who was arrested a week ago.
