Protesters set fire to an effigy of Textiles and Ports and district in-charge Minister Baburao Chinchansurand tyres at Shastri Chowk in Yadgir on Wednesday.

Opposing the transfer of Yadgir Rural Police Station Sub-Inspector Veeranna Magi, activists of Karnataka Raskhana Vedike and people from different parts of the district took out a rally from Shastri Chowk to the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday. They demanded that the transfer order be revoked.

They said that Mr. Magi was transferred because of pressure from Textiles, Ports and district in-charge Minister Baburao Chinchansur as the latter did not want an efficient officer like Mr. Magi to serve the district.

Appreciating the officer’s work, they said that he had successfully tackled law and order issues and helped the poor get justice. Therefore, the State government should recall the transfer order and continue the officer in the same place in the interest of the people.

The protesters burnt an effigy of Mr. Chinchansur and also vehicle tyres at Shastri Chowk.

Later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the Deputy Commissioner.

Meanwhile, activists of Jai Karnataka also submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police Vinayaka Patil, opposing the sudden transfer of the officer.
