A day ahead of the visit of Home Minster R. Ramalinga Reddy to Mangaluru, a team of city police officers and personnel carried out a surprise search operation at the Mangaluru District Prison.
The team comprising of 50 officers and 129 police personnel led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) Hanumatharaya searched different parts of the prison between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m.
Mr. Hanumantharaya said the police recovered two mobile phones, three sharp objects, one packet of cannabis, two hukka type plastic bottles, a mobile charger and a electric wire extension cord. Mr. Hanumantharaya said the raid on Tuesday was a part of the routine search exercise carried out at the prison.
Mr. Reddy is scheduled to arrive in the city on Wednesday morning and inaugurate the new fire station in Moodbidri. He will also formally inaugurate the Mangaluru South Traffic police station that covers areas coming under Ullal, Konaje, Mangaluru Rural and Kankanady police stations.
Mr. Reddy will review the law and order situation with police officers from the five districts of the Western Range. He will leave for Bengaluru after visiting the District Congress office in the evening.
