The historical Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir near Srirangapatna in the district has been brought under tight security cover following the blast at Church Street in Bengaluru.
The KRS and the magnificent Brindavan Gardens on the downstream of the reservoir attract at least 3 lakh tourists every month. Whilst the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had threatened to blow up the reservoir immediate after the assassination of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, it has been facing threats from Pakistan-based militant organisations in recent years.
Security blanket
The reservoir has been put under an intense security blanket following a blast in Bengaluru, Geetha Prasanna, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Srirangapatna subdivision), told The Hindu .
“We have deployed Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and District Armed Reserve (DAR) platoons and installed door-frame metal detectors and surveillance cameras at major places,” she said.
