Police fires at chain-snatcher after knife attack

The Byatarayanapura police fired at a chain-snatcher and caught him while he was trying to flee after attacking the police with a knife on Mysore Road on Sunday.

The accused, Irfan (25) a resident of Binni Mill area, was caught by passers-by while trying to flee after snatching a gold chain from a woman on Mysore Road and was handed over to the beat constable Ramesh. Irfan reportedly escaped after stabbing Ramesh while he was being escorted in an autorickshaw.

Soon Byatarayanpura police swung into action and confronted Irfan on Mysore Road where Irfan attacked sub-inspector Lakshman and Inspector Satyanarayana and tried to escape.

Satyanarayana fired at Irfan injuring him on his right leg and rushed him to Victoria Hospital. Based on Irfan’s information, police picked up his associate Basha and recovered 20 grams of gold chain.
