Police distributes first-aid kits to 80 department vehicles

A total of 80 police vehicles were given first-aid kits by the district Police Department here on Saturday. After distributing the kits, Superintendent of Police S.D. Sharanappa said all police officials would be imparted first aid training.

"This is important as the police are the first respondents to any accident or violent event. At least, the police can control bleeding of victims," he said, adding that the distribution was also to replenish the exhausted first-aid kits in numerous police vehicles.

While suggesting that every car in the district should be fitted with a first-aid kit, the SP urged motorists to learn the basics of first aid from nearby hospitals.

"Citizens should also get over the fear of calling for an ambulance or taking the victim to the hospital. We had recently conducted a meeting to streamline the legal processes involved in appearing as a witness," he said.

‘Yet to go through order’

Meanwhile, responding to a query about the Supreme Court quashing a suspension order against the SP and other police officials, Mr. Sharanappa said: "The Supreme Court has noticed that the principles of natural justice were not followed in this case. I had not been given a chance by the High Court to present my case."

On July 30, the Karnataka High Court had ordered that the SP, Belthangady Circle Inspector and Sub-Inspector, and assistant SI attached to Belthangady police station be suspended till a chargesheet was filed in a land-grab case filed against a local "history-sheeter". Mr. Sharanappa had then approached the Supreme Court which quashed the order on November 24.

However, the SP said the Court's written order was yet to arrive, based on which a chargesheet could be initiated against the activist.
