The city police have claimed significant success during Crime Prevention Month observed during December. Thirty-six cases were cracked, 50 people were taken into custody and valuables worth Rs. 60.43 lakh was recovered. This was disclosed by Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem on Tuesday who listed out a few major cases the police had solved.
Six persons suspected to be involved in supari killing and dacoity were nabbed by the Nazarbad police on Monday. The police recovered jewellery and other valuables worth Rs. 5.7 lakh from them.
The main accused was identified as Jabbiuallah and his accomplices were identified as Manju and Ahmad of Mysore and Sjjad, Kiran and Mubarak of Bangalore.
Mr. Saleem said the Nazarbad beat police sighted a car that tried to speed away.
However, the police intercepted them and the gang members were overpowered. Lethal weapons were found in the car. During interrogation, they found out that Jabbiuallah of Bangalore was wanted in a murder case registered in Udaygiri police limits.
The gang members were also wanted in connection with a dacoity case reported in Alananahalli in November. The members had targeted the house of a senior citizen, gagged him and looted 147 gm of gold and 400 gm of silver valued at around Rs. 5.7 lakh. The valuables had been recovered from them, the police said.
Jabbiullah was the mastermind, according to Mr. Saleem. During interrogation, Jabbibullah confessed his involvement in the murder of one Quadir in Udaygiri, the Commissioner said.
He was assisted by Manju who would zero in on houses inhabited by senior citizens or woman who were alone and target them. Mr. Saleem said Jabbibullah had cases registered against him in Kumaraswamy Layout, Subramanyanagar, J.P. Nagar, K.R. Puram and Basavanagudi police stations in Bangalore and Udaygiri police station in Mysore.
Hootagalli case solvedThe police have also solved the case in which a woman, Vanajakshi of Hootagalli, was assaulted by some miscreants who entered her house after convincing her that they were cable TV operators.
The woman was stabbed before being robbed. Four persons have been arrested in this connection.
The accused were identified as K.B. Boregowda of Hinkal, L.K. Ravi of Hunsur, Mahesh and Mahadevu of K.R. Nagar. The police also recovered earrings, mobile handsets and other valuables worth Rs. 50,000 from the gang.
Fraudster arrestedThe Commissioner said the police had also nabbed Mahadevappa alias Penappa of Basavatti village in Nanjangud taluk of Mysore district who used to dupe elderly women by promising to help them get pension.
The accused was wanted in six cases registered in Devaraja police limits and jewellery valued at Rs.2.5 lakh was recovered from him.
