Police book case after objectionable comments on Facebook

Acting upon multiple complaints about objectionable comments on B.R. Ambedkar and people of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communityies on Facebook, Sringeri police traced it to be an act of a minor boy. The police produced him before a court in Sringeri on Friday.

The accused had posted many objectionable comments on his Facebook account. The office of Superintendent of Police in Chikkamagaluru had received complaints through mail. Similar complaints were filed in different places against the accused. Sringeri police have booked a case on charges of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race (153A of IPC), deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings (295A), intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (504 of IPC) besides the provisions under the SC/ST Act and Sections 66 (E) and 71 of the Information Technology Act.
