‘Police atrocities on Hindus on the rise’

October 02, 2013 03:29 pm | Updated 03:29 pm IST - BANGALORE:

State BJP leaders have alleged that police atrocities on Hindus are on the rise after the Congress government came to power in the State.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, State BJP general secretary C.T. Ravi and party spokesperson Ashwathnarayan alleged the Home Department was targeting Hindu organisations and booking cases against them on false complaints.

Police personnel beat up some youths at Laxmeshwar in Gadag district and at Haldur in Chikmagalur district during the immersion of Ganesh idols, and at Sira in Tumkur district over allotment of shops to a particular community, they alleged.

Appeasement policy

The Congress government was pursuing an appeasement policy to garner Muslim votes in the next general elections, they alleged.

‘Fact-finding’ teams

They said that in a couple of days, three “fact-finding” teams under the leadership of the former Chief Ministers D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Jagadish Shettar, and the former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa would visit Laxmeshwar, Haldur and Sira.
