The Malavalli Rural Police on Thursday exhumed the body of a farmer from a residence in Nelamakana Halli and arrested his wife and her lover for allegedly murdering the farmer.

While the police identified the victim as Siddegowda, they gave the names of the arrested persons as Savitha and Lokesh.

According to police sources, Savitha had an acquaintance with Lokesh.

The two, when Siddegowda objected to their affair, allegedly murdered him in Lokesh’s house.

The two then allegedly buried the body inside Lokesh’s residence the same day, the sources said.

The murder took place in 2006. However, Siddegowda’s brother, Kempegowda, filed a missing complaint with the Malavalli Rural Police in 2008. The police then closed the case.

The sources said that an anonymous person sent a letter containing details of the murder to the police recently.

Later, the Malavalli police conducted an investigation and exhumed the body in the presence of Shantha L. Hulmani, Assistant Commissioner of Mandya.

“We will send the skull and bones to the laboratory for scientific tests,” Ms. Hulmani said. The Malavalli Rural Police have registered a case. Investigation is on.
