Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that with an objective of providing drinking water and recharging ground water, the government has planned to fill-up some 2,000 tanks in the State.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the tank filling projects of Mamadapur, Begum Talab and Bhutanal tanks at Mamadapur village of the taluk on Thursday, he said that Water Resources Minister, M. B. Patil had strove hard for getting these important projects implemented in his home district.
The Chief Minister said that during the period of Adil Shahi dynasty, several tanks including Begum Talab was used to supply water to a population of 13 lakh.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that after completion of the project, Bhutanal and Begum Talab would help in providing water to the people of Vijayapura.
In his address, District Incharge Minister, M. B. Patil said that the filling up of Mamadapur tank would help in recharging ground water level in 25 kilometres radius of the tanks.
The Chief Minister was scheduled to inaugurate installation of solar panels on canals of Upper Krishna Project for generating electricity later yesterday. But owing to rains coupled with gusty winds in Almatti area, the programme was cancelled.
