The Union Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has plans to set up generic medicines at railways and bus stations.
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar on Monday announced that the Centre was ready to start generic drug stores in every government hospital, including those in taluks. “We can also have drug stores in railway and bus stations under the Jan Aushadhi scheme,” he said, asking the State government to enter into an agreement with the Centre for the purpose.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Sri Kalabyraveshwaraswamy Ayurvedic Hospital building set up by the Adichunchungiri Shikshana Trust in Vijaynagar.
Responding to Mr. Ananth Kumar, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the State government was open to avail all facilities provided by the Centre. “Please sanction a fertilizer plant for Karnataka as we do not have even a single unit here. Also, make place for more pharma companies to set up base in Karnataka,” the Chief Minister said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Ministers D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Ananth Kumar, State Health Minister U.T. Khader, Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former Home Minister R. Ashok apart from a host of MLAs, MLCs and councillors, who attended the event had one thing in common.
They all paid their respects and heaped praises on Adichunchungiri Math seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami and secretary of the Shikshana Trust Purushotamanandanatha Swami. The Chief Minister even admitted that they could not “play any politics” in the presence of the seer.
