Pope Francis has appointed Most Rev. Peter Machado as the Archbishop of Bengaluru. The appointment follows the resignation of Archbishop Most Rev. Bernard Moras, which was accepted on Monday.

Fr. Machado has been the Bishop of Belagavi from 2006. The Papal orders reached Belagavi on Monday. Fr. Machado will be the seventh Archbishop of Bengaluru. He is also the second Bishop of Belagavi to be elevated as the Bengaluru Archbishop after Fr. Moras, who had also served as the Bishop of Belagavi earlier.

Hailing from Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district, Fr. Machado went to school in Belagavi before joining the Papal Seminary in Pune for Philosophical and Theological studies.
