B.S. Yeddyurappa, State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has said that the people of Karnataka are disillusioned with the misrule of the Congress government.
He was speaking at a programme organised by the BJP taluk unit at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan in the city on Wednesday.
He said that the State government had failed to come to the rescue of farmers who have incurred heavy losses owing to drought.
The Centre had released ample funds for the relief works in drought-affected areas but the State failed to utilise it in a proper manner, he alleged.
Referring to the alleged suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapathy, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that excess political interference in the functioning of the Department of Police had demoralised the personnel, he said.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said that owing to the slump in the price of arecanut, the State government should press the Centre to procure the produce at minimum support price.
N.G. Rudresh Gowda assumed charge as the president of BJP Shivamogga taluk unit on the occasion. The former MP Ayanur Manjunath was present.
