Pen-down strike by PU teachers

Lecturers of pre-university (PU) colleges who are evaluating answer scripts of the second PU examination staged a pen-down agitation at evaluation centres here for half a day on Friday in support of their demands.

The evaluators are demanding honorarium on a par with that paid to lecturers evaluating answer scripts of degree examinations.

The strike was part of a Statewide agitation by PU lecturers for drawing the State Government's attention to their demands.

They want their daily allowance to be increased to Rs. 500 from the present Rs. 300 and honorarium to Rs. 15 per answer script from the present Rs. 12.

Six centres

Over 2,500 lecturers are evaluating answer scripts at six centres in Mysore city — Marimallappa's PU College, Vijaya Vittala PU College, St. Philomena's PU College, Mahajana PU College, Cauvery Composite PU College and Chinmaya Vidyalaya.

They are also demanding creation of posts of professor and assistant professor in PU colleges.

MLC Maritebbe Gowda joined the PU lecturers in their agitation.
