The Mysore Grahakara Parishad (MGP) has stated that it has written to the Deputy Director, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Mysore, to immediately issue instructions to all public distribution system shops to comply with the conditions of their licence and to issue itemised receipts to customers.
According to Section 5 of the Annexe to the Public Distribution System Control Order, 2001, every PDS shop must display information at a prominent place in the shop, said Asha Vombatkere of MGP, Mysore.

The list of below poverty line and Antyodaya beneficiaries; entitlement of essential commodities; scale of issue, retail issue prices; shop timings; stocks of essential commodities received during the month; opening and closing stock of essential commodities and the authority for redressal of grievances or lodging of complaints with respect to quality and quantity of essential commodities under PDS, should be properly displayed at the shops. Every PDS shop must also display the samples of all foodgrains sold there, she said in a press release issued here.
‘No receipts’
However, it is surprising that most shops are not complying with the conditions of the licence, and are also not issuing itemised receipts to the customers, Ms. Vombatkere observed.
“The customers have no way of telling if they were overcharged,” Ms. Vombatkere said in the release.
