Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swamiji of Kaniyur Math, who will take charge as Paryaya seer at the Krishna Math/Temple here on January 18, said on Thursday that the seers of the Ashta Maths will be carried in palanquins atop vehicles during the Paryaya festival procession on Saturday.

Lakshmivara Tirtha Swamiji of Shiroor Math had, on Wednesday, objected to last month’s proposal by Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math.

Addressing presspersons here, the Kaniyur seer said that he would convince the Shiroor seer to agree to the proposal of swamijis sitting in palanquins atop vehicles as suggested by the Pejawar seer. “I will meet the Shiroor seer and talk to him on this issue. I am confident that he will agree to the proposal,” he said.

Asked if all the seers of the Ashta Maths (barring the outgoing Paryaya seer who will be at the Sri Krishna Math/Temple) will participate in the Paryaya procession, the Kaniyur seer said: “There is no hard and fast rule that all the seers should participate in the Paryaya procession. It depends on the wishes of the seers.”

To another question, the Kaniyur seer said that he had sent an invitation to Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math for the Paryaya festival. He (Kaniyur seer) would participate in the felicitation organised by the Puttige seer for him at the latter’s math on Thursday. “I have invited Puttige seer to participate in the cultural function of the Paryaya festival on Saturday evening,” he said.

On whether the Puttige seer had been invited to the Paryaya Durbar function, the Kaniyur seer said that he would discuss this and other issues with other seers of the Ashta Maths. But he refused to give a time-frame for the discussion. “I have cordial relations with all seers. There will be no controversy this time,” he said.

Tableaux

The Kaniyur seer said that 17 tableaux would participate in the Paryaya procession on January 18, including that of “Babruvahana” and “Rama-Lakshmana being carried by Hanuman”.
