Various political parties have called for a bandh here on Wednesday condemning the “partisan attitude” of the police in the case related to the alleged illegal purchase of land by Y. Ramakka, MLA, Kolar Gold Fields.

The police have not arrested any one in the case so far.

Leaders of the Congress, the Janata Dal (Secular), the Republican Party of India, and the BSR Congress alleged that the police were acting at the behest of Ms. Ramakka and her son and former MLA, Y. Sampangi. “The case should be handed over to the Lokayukta,” JD(S) leader and the former MLA M. Bhaktavatsalam and Mr. Rajendran told presspersons.

Mr. Bhaktavatsalam alleged that Mr. Sampangi purchased 15 acres from poor farmers under duress near Kaggihalli and encroached upon 65 acres of gomal land there. He displayed documents to substantiate the charges.

Mr. Rajendran alleged that officials of Corporation Bank, KGF branch, sanctioned Rs. 1.6 crore as loan to Ms. Ramakka without checking the legality of the land.
