A portion of the stone mantap structure atop Chamundi Hills here, which is a popular spot among youth, caved in due to heavy rain here on Thursday night.

The mantap, standing on a circular shaped podium built from stones, is located along the Chamundi Temple Road. A portion of the podium wall collapsed as rain pounded the city.

Officials from the Forest Department and Archaeology visited the spot and assessed the damage.

The stone mantap is also a favourite spot for filmmakers who have shot many scenes of Kannada films at the mantap. A portion of the city can be seen standing atop the structure.
