Parks and pools given importance

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Mysuru:

Unlike previous years, there are no major announcements in the budget this time though the MCC had referred to projects like restoration of Devaraja Market and Lansdowne building, which had been announced in the State Budget.

The MCC has announced a revamp of the existing underground drainage (UGD) network by setting aside Rs. 33 crore. It will develop five roads in each Assembly constituency in Mysuru as ‘model’ roads under the Mayor’s Road scheme and has set aside Rs. 5 crore.

To improve greenery and lung space, MCC will develop parks at a cost of Rs. 23 crore, according to Haseen Taj, Chairperson, Standing Committee on Tax, Finance and Appeals. A residential complex will be constructed for slum-dwellers at Indira Colony in Narasimharaja constituency under the SNPUPR scheme and Rs. 5.58 crore has been set aside for the purpose.

A project has been proposed to digitise the trade licence data and the city planning unit, besides modernising the MCC’s “uninspiring” website.

The MCC has once again proposed to provide facilities for roadside vendors. It has set aside Rs. 10 crore towards the street vendors’ facility. The MCC is banking on the State government’s funds for projects like construction of swimming pools at Subbarayanakere, Kuvempunagar and in Narasimharaja constituency and Rs. 3 crore has been set aside.

Prominent circles would get a heritage touch with the corporation setting aside Rs. 5 crore. The MCC will build Kannada Soudha and Sthree Shakti Soudha and has earmarked Rs. 2.25 crore for the proposals.
