Enraged over the transfer of nine teachers following the state government’s latest decision on redeployment of school teachers, parents and their wards staged a protest at the Government Model Primary Kannada Medium School No.14 and School No.5 at Vadgaon in the city on Friday.
Parents did not allow their children to attend classes during the day, and children from the two primary schools in same premises joined the protest. The children held placards and demanded that their teachers remain the school.
The parents, who declared that they would not send their children to the school on Saturday too, threatened to launch an agitation from Monday if the Department of Public Instruction did not cancel the teachers’ transfers to retain the pupil-teacher ratio.
Parents said the new circular of the government amending the pupil-teacher ratio to 40:1 was unscientific, which would have a bearing on quality of teaching and learning. The government should instead improve the teaching quality and boost learning abilities of the children, they added.
Block Education Officer Leelavathi Hiremath, who rushed to the school, said that the department had to abide by the government’s directions.
