‘Parents should give equal facilities to boys, girls’

March 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Though the government has introduced steps to control domestic violence, many women in the State still suffer from it owing to lack of proper implementation of laws and awareness, Karnataka State Women’s Commission chairperson Manjula Manasa has said. Speaking after inaugurating a seminar on ‘Empowerment of women’ organised by Saraswathi Law College here on Friday, she said that she had seen many incidents of violence on women in last few months and people speak out only during International Women’s Day and forget about it till next year. “Though there is 50 per cent reservation for women in politics, it is still dominated by men.

“So the commission has planned to conduct seminars and workshops to encourage women to come forward and exhibit their talent in every field, including politics,” she added. She also stressed the need for bringing changes in the mindset of parents to ensure equal facilities and opportunities to boys and girls. Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Office N. Manjushri was present.
