To consolidate the Dalit vote bank behind the Congress ahead of the 2019 general elections, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara is likely to be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister, along with H.D. Kumaraswamy who will be sworn in as the Chief Minister on Wednesday.

Mr. Parameshwara, who backed the tie-up with the Janata Dal (Secular) after a fractured mandate, is likely to emerge as the consensus candidate among the Congress for the Deputy Chief Minister’s post.

Mr. Parameshwara won election from Koratagere constituency in Tumakuru district by defeating JD(S) candidate Sudhakar Lal.
