Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara has left for New Delhi on Wednesday evening reportedly to participate in a meeting of the State screening committee for selection of party candidates for Lok Sabha elections.
Congress leader Vayalar Ravi heads the screening committee for Karnataka, and the meeting is likely to be held on Thursday.
With Lok Sabha elections likely to be held in April-May, early finalisation of candidates would give at least three months time for them to prepare for the elections.
Sources in the State Congress said told The Hindu that the high command has entrusted a bunch of leaders the job of collecting information on constituencies, including the names of probable candidates.
With Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi keen on early declaration of candidates for Lok Sabha polls, the State unit is understood to have decided to come out with a list of nominees as early as possible.
Congress MLA Malikaya Guttedar told presspersons here that he would take a delegation of party legislators to Delhi after the ongoing session of the State legislature to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi to seek himself and other senior members’ berths in the State Cabinet. Three Cabinet berths in the State are vacant at the moment.
