To reach out to voters and ensure high participation in the May 5 elections to the Legislative Assembly, the Election Commission has decided to use the services of the Meghalaya Paragliding Association on Saturday and Sunday.
A para-motor with the message, “Hurry - April 7 is the last day for enrolling to vote”, will take off from Jakkur here at 8 a.m. on April 6. It would fly over the city on Sunday also to create awareness among eligible voters.
April 7 is the last day for submission of application for enrolment in the electoral rolls.
The para-motor would fly over the city for 2-3 hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings and evenings. The method has been successfully used for creating awareness among voters in Meghalaya in the recent elections, Chief Electoral officer Anil Kumar Jha told presspersons here on Friday. Besides accommodation for the crew and fuel cost, the commission would spend Rs. 40,000 per day for using the services of the association, he said.

Applicants can submit applications online for enrolment of their names in the electoral rolls. Errors in the online system had been rectified to enable the applicants to submit applications till April 7 (till noon), he said.
He said that applicants can obtain EPIC cards at any of the BangaloreOne cenres by paying Rs. 10. Citizens will get these cards free at the ward offices or voter facilitation centres.
A total of 8.26 lakh applications have been received in the State since January 20 and of them, 4.93 lakh applications have been cleared, he said.
