The zilla panchayat on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution to demand the immediate reopening of the Rajiv Gandhi Super-specialty Hospital (OPEC Hospital), which has remained shut for the last year.
The ZP also passed two more resolutions. The first resolution demanded that the State government implement the provisions of Article 371 (J) of the Constitution, which provides reservation in jobs and education for people in Hyderabad-Karnataka.
The other resolution demanded the immediate implementation of the Nandawadi lift irrigation project, which can provide 1 tmcft water for drinking.
Heated discussion
There was a heated discussion on the scarcity of drinking water in rural areas. The members pointed out the “failures” of officials who were responsible for supplying drinking water to rural areas.
‘Prepare report’
Hampanagouda Badarli, Sindhanur MLA, intervened and suggested that a comprehensive report be prepared on the drinking water problem in rural areas.
He said that copies should be given to MLAs of the constituencies concerned so that collective efforts could be made to address the issue.
Some members alleged that farmers in the district were facing a serious problem of insufficient power supply owing to delayed and improper repair of transformers.
When Mitagar, executive engineer, Gescom, said there were no problems with transformers, Hampaiah Sahukar, Manvi MLA, said he would resign if Mr. Mitagar could prove his statement.
