Siddarth Kuncoliekar, former Joint Secretary to the former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, on Saturday filed his nomination papers as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the byelection to the Panaji Assembly constituency. Mr. Parrikar was present.

The Congress, the main Opposition in the State, has fielded Panaji Mayor Surendra Furtado. The election is scheduled for February 13.

Streamlining city traffic and resolving the garbage issue were the main issues on which the BJP would concentrate, Mr. Cuncolikar told presspersons after filing the nomination.

The Congress has raised issues such as the failure of the BJP government to oust offshore casinos from the Mandovi, failure of the government to give a land use plan, special category status to Goa, resumption of mining, among others.
