BJP State unit president Pralhad Joshi flagged off a padayatra at Sidlaghatta Circle in Chickballapur on Saturday. The State BJP Yuva Morcha organised the padayatra demanding permanent irrigation facilities to Kolar, Chickballapur and Bengaluru Rural districts.
Addressing a public meeting on the occasion, Mr. Joshi charged the State government with indifference towards water needs of the parched region. “The government has spent Rs. 72,000 crore for irrigation facilities of north Karnataka, but has failed to earmark even Rs. 25,000 crore for the region,” he said.
Former legislators Y. Sampangi, K. Narayanaswamy, B.P. Venkatamuniyappa, and State BJP Yuva Morcha president P. Muniraju Gowda participated.
The participants will stay at Devanahalli on Saturday and will proceed to Yelahanka on Sunday. They will reach Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Monday.
