P.N. Srinivasachari, district nodal secretary, has warned that water tankers will be seized if tanker owners refuse to supply water demanding more money. Addressing a drought review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday, Mr. Srinivasachari directed Deputy Commissioner D.K. Ravi to seize tankers belonging to such owners.
Some tanker owners were refusing to supply water despite an increase in payment. They were demanding more money, the official said and directed the Deputy Commissioner to take action against them.
“Water is a national asset. Action will be initiated against those hampering supply of water in a drought situation,” he warned.
Mr. Srinivasachari also expressed dissatisfaction over non-functioning of the helpline set up at taluk centres to address the water problem.
Mr. Ravi blamed some people’s representatives for supporting private tanker owners.
