More than Rs.17 crore interim compensation has been paid to families of the victims of last month's air crash in Mangalore that left 158 dead.
Air India (AI) has paid Rs.14.06 crore to the families of 151 passengers of the Air India Express that crashed at the airport on May 22, a spokesperson said on Friday. This amount includes compensation given to the eight survivors.
The family members and survivors have also received Rs.3.06 crore from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, the spokesperson said.
Compensation to the family of one victim, however, is pending as the claimant is currently abroad. The amount will be paid as soon as he returns to the country, the spokesperson said.
Families of all the six crew members killed will get compensation as per Air India service rules and regulations.
The Mangalore-bound flight from Dubai with 166 passengers overshot the runway, plunged into a ravine, broke up in parts and was engulfed by flames.
The interim compensation payment process, which began on May 28, was completed within 20 days in three sittings.
