CBI on Sunday conducted searches at two premises of an associate of jailed mining baron G Janardhan Reddy in connection with the probe into illegal iron ore export.

An eight-member CBI team searched two locations in Kunkeri near Koppal and Karatagi near Gangavati in connection with the illegal mining and export of nearly 50 lakh tonnes of iron ore from Belekeri port, CBI sources said.

A 10-member CBI team had on Saturday searched the houses of Reddy’s aides Karapudi Mahesh, Swastik Nagaraj and Somasekhar, who runs a transport firm.

CBI had on September 14 filed an FIR on illegal iron ore export from Belikeri port in Uttara Kannada district, the investigation of which was entrusted to it by the Supreme Court.

The probe agency had earlier filed a criminal case on directions of the Supreme Court in October last year against Reddy and others under various IPC sections, Prevention of Corruption Act, Indian Forest Act and Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act 1957.
