Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge has said that there is no proposal now before the Railway Ministry for the commercial exploitation of property owned by the Railways near railway stations in the country.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Kharge said that 300 acres of land was available with the Railways and of this, only 33 acres was found to be commercially viable.
To a question, he said that there was no proposal before the Railways for exploitation of commercially viable railway property through public-private partnership. Earlier attempts at commercial exploitation of railway property by inviting global tenders had failed to get enthusiastic response, he added.
He said that commercial exploitation of railway property can be given a thought only after improvement of resource mobilisation in the Railways.
Mr. Kharge told a questioner that there is no dearth of funds for completing the line doubling work between Bangalore and Mysore.
