The District Planning Committee meeting held here on Saturday resolved to create an online database on the health conditions of children in anganwadi centres in the district.
Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Sasikanth Senthil told the meeting that an online database would facilitate better monitoring of the health of the children.
He said that Department of Women and Child Welfare in Assam had adopted such a system, and it had yielded positive results. The zilla panchayat will request the National Informatics Centre to provide technical assistance to introduce a similar system here, he said.
Details of the health of children would be collected from anganwadis and uploaded onto the database at the offices of Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) at the taluk level. The information collected here will be used in the implementation of child welfare and education schemes, he added.
Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal directed Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Lakshmikanthamma to collect information on height and body mass index of children in anganwadis.
Multimedia contentMr. Senthil said the Department of Public Instruction planned to use multimedia tools for better education in the district. Students pursuing Bachelor of Engineering courses at the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering in the city have developed multimedia learning content for class 8 students. Classes were held using this learning content on an experimental basis at government high schools in Sirigere and Tammadikoppa villages in the district. The experiment has yielded positive results, he added. It has been planned to conduct similar classes at other government schools in the district.
Mr. Bansal told the meeting that, as per the direction of the High Court, two acres of land will be reserved in each gram panchayat in the district for solid waste management. A circular in this regard has been sent to all gram panchayats. If there was encroachment of public land in the villages, encroachments will be cleared and the land will be used for solid waste management. The elected representatives should cooperate in identifying public land and in encroachment clearance, he said.
H.R. Rajappa, serving as Project Director with the Urban Development Cell, told the meeting that the Shimoga City Corporation had undertaken energy conservation measures by installing LED streetlights on B.H. Road, Nehru Road and Kuvempu Road.
Zilla panchayat president Geetha Mallikarjun and Shimoga City Corporation Mayor Khurshida Banu were present.
