Holding a meeting of the onion farmers, merchants and officials at the APMC at Amaragol located in between Hubballi and Dharwad, Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Cholan also ordered for reopening of 15 shops of the merchants, which were sealed by the officials in a late evening development after some merchants expressed their inability to participate in the auction.

Announcing the decision after interaction with farmers and merchants, Mr. Cholan said that the auction of onion crop would resume and a monitoring committee comprising of Hubballi tahsildar and the APMC secretary would be set up to monitor the auctioning process on a daily basis.

Subsequently as the market reopened for the auction, there was some good news for the farmers with the onion crop fetching over Rs. 950 per quintal.
