The Talkad police have arrested a woman, her paramour and two of the latter’s associates on charge of murder of a 35-year-old man and dumping his body in the river underneath Hemmige bridge at Talakad in Mysuru district.
The police, who began the investigation after finding an unidentified body floating in the river with a towel tied to the neck on March 14, soon identified the dead man as Basavaraj, a labourer from Madrahalli village.
During inquiries, the police learnt that deceased had learnt about his wife Neelavathi’s extramarital affair and the couple used to quarrel over the issue. The police arrested Neelavathi, who during questioning, is believed to have confessed to killing her husband along with her paramour Siddaraju (26), a resident of Eshwaregowdanahalli in Nanjangud taluk with whom she was having extramarital relationship for the last two years, and two others.
Conspiracy to kill
In a statement here on Tuesday, Superintendent of Mysuru district police Abhinav Khare said the suspect Neelavathi hatched a conspiracy to kill her husband, who was harassing her. So, after convincing him to accompany her to Tayur temple, the husband and wife set out of Madrahalli in a bus on March 12. En-route, Neelavathi alighted at T. Narsipur bus stand and called Siddaraju from a coin booth and informed him that they were on the way to Tayur temple in a bus.
Soon, Siddaraju, accompanied by his two friends – Revanna and Basavaraj – got onto a motorcycle and trailed the bus carrying Neelavathi and her husband. After the bus by which Neelavathi and her husband were travelling reached Tayur gate around 6.30 p.m., the duo alighted and started walking towards Tayur. At around 7 p.m., Siddaraju and his friends reached the spot and waylaid Basavaraju, who was walking with Neelavathi towards Tayur.
Immediately, Neelavathi told Siddaraju and his friends to kill her husband after which the four of them dragged Basavaraju to the drain alongside the road before assaulting him and strangulating him to death with a towel. Next, Siddaraju and his two friends placed Basavaraj’s dead body on the motorcycle with them in the sitting position and rode to Hemmige bridge in Talkad before disposing the body, according to police. Siddaraju and his two friends were also arrested at T. Narsipur bus stand on Monday, Mr. Khare said in a statement.
The suspects allegedly took Basavaraj’s dead body on the motorcycle in the sitting position and rode to Hemmige bridge in Talkad,
before disposing it
