Watchman of a motorcycle showroom on the Khaja Banda Nawaz Darga road in the heart of Kalaburagi city was killed on-the-spot when a LPG cylinder inside the neighbouring tea stall burst in the early hours of Thursday.

Police gave the name of the victim was Sheikh Jalal (55). Nobody else was injured in the incident. Vinayak, owner of the tea stall, and Bharani, watchman of Pragnya English Medium School, who were near the spot, were in shock and admitted to the government hospital and kept under observation.

According to the eye witness accounts, including Vinayak and Bharani, the victim first noticed the smoke coming out of the locked tea stall and woke up Bharani and both went to Vinayak's house to take him to the tea stall.

As the doors of the tea stall were unlocked, a blast occurred impacting Jalal as he had entered the tea stall first. One of Jalal's legs had amputated due to the blast and he died on the spot.

Senior police officials including Inspector General of Police Sunil Agarwal, Superintendent of Police Amit Singh and other officials inspected the spot soon after the incident.
