A 28-year-old man was injured when a few unidentified persons opened fire on him in Davangere district on Saturday night during a sale of gold at cheap rates. The injured is Santosh, a resident of Machihalli village in Harapanahalli taluk of the district.

According to the police, Santosh had invited a group for bulk selling of gold at cheap rates. While discussing the matter, Santosh insisted that they show him the money first. But the buyers demanded that he show the gold first.

A heated argument between Santosh and the group ensued, with the latter finally opening fire and injuring Santosh on his thigh. Though the incident occurred on Saturday night, it came to light only on Sunday afternoon when Santosh was brought to a government hospital in Davangere for treatment. A case has been registered at the Harapanalli police station and probe is on.
