Dynasty politics is not new in India, and three young Congress legislators — Priyank Kharge, S.S. Mallikarjun, and Eshwar Khandre — followed their father’s footsteps and were sworn in as Ministers in the Siddaramaiah government. The fathers — M. Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha; Shamanur Shivashankarappa, former Minister, and Bheemanna Khandre, former Minister and Veerashaiva leader — witnessed the oath-taking ceremony of their sons in Raj Bhavan. While Mr. Kharge’s son Priyank is a first-time MLA representing Chittapur constituency in Kalaburagi district, Mr. Shamanur’s son Mallikarjun was a Minister in the S.M. Krishna government and now represents Davangere North constituency. Mr. Khandre’s son Eshwar represents Bhalki constituency in Bidar district.
