The postgraduate (PG) centre of Bangalore University (BU) in Kolar is all set to become the new campus of the proposed Bangalore North University. But a reality check shows that it has not yet developed into a full-fledged campus, with a lot of work yet to be completed.
Campus troubles
Started in 1995, the PG Centre was functioning from the premises of the Government College for Boys in Kolar. After a long-drawn struggle by the students, it was shifted to a new 30-acre campus in 2011.
The scarcity of facilities at the centre is a serious issue. The PG Centre campus at Mangasandra on the outskirts of Kolar town is bereft of even a building to conduct classes. Water is the only facility that is available on the campus. Proper electricity supply is also not assured though electricity lines have been installed.
Hope for the better
C. Nagabhushan, Director of PG Centre in Kolar, while welcoming the government’s decision, expressed hope that the pending works on the campus may get expedited once a special officer for the proposed varsity is appointed.
“The government may ask for space for an administrative office for the new university. Under such circumstances, we may be forced to search for buildings on rental basis to conduct the classes till the new varsity gets its campus set up in Jangammakote,” Mr. Nagabhushan said.
