Officials attached to the Vigilance Wing of the Agriculture Department on Wednesday busted a racket of manufacturing spurious fertilizers in the town.

Acting on a tip-off, Indhudhara Murthy, assistant officer of the Wing, and K.C. Sushma, Taluk Agriculture Officer, raided a locked godown of S.M. Industries at Shankar Mutt and seized around 570 bags of raw materials, which the accused have been using to manufacture spurious fertilizers.

Samples

The department has drawn samples from the seized bags and sent them to the fertilizer control laboratory for scientific tests, Ms. Sushma told The Hindu .

“We have sealed the godown, registered a case against unknown accused persons and are investigating to trace them,” a police officer said.
