Officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation who went on an inspection of shops in the Central Market area at Hampankatta on Monday sealed five shops which did not have trade licence. Their owners were asked to apply for the licence. They included a canteen, an electronics shop, a textile shop and a shop selling tools and equipment.

The officials forced the five shops to down shutters for failing to show the receipt for applying for the renewal of trade licence. Of them three shops were allowed to open in the afternoon after their owners produced the receipts.

The officials seized about seven kg of plastic bags from street vendors and a shop in front of the Central Market building. Of them 5.4 kg of bags were seized from the shop alone. Officials of the health section conducted the inspection.
