Officials discuss smart city road map for Belagavi city

Officials of the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) are looking forward to proactive and constructive support and suggestion from elected representatives and citizens to achieve the objectives of the Smart City project within the given timeframe.

Belagavi city, which secured the highest points in the competition to Smart City in the State and also cleared the first stage successfully, is to be developed to create infrastructure “with sustainable economic development and high quality of life through excellence in various key areas of: economy, mobility, environment, people, living and government”.

Excelling in these areas could be achieved only through strong human capital, social capital, and/or Information Communication Technology infrastructure, said G. Prabhu, BCC Commissioner. Mr. Prabhu, who assumed the charge of recently, conducted an interactive session with the council members on Monday. Mayor Kiran Sayanak, Deputy Mayor Meena Rayman Vaaz, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Uddappa Sontakki, Sambhaji L. Patil, MLA, and senior officials of the BCC were present. He said the core infrastructure elements to develop the city into a Smart City consisted of adequate drinking water supply, assured electricity supply, proper sanitation and solid waste management system, efficient urban mobility and public transport, affordable housing especially for the poor, robust IT connectivity and digitalisation, good governance, e-governance and citizen participation, sustainable environment, good health and education facilities. That apart, safety and security of citizens, particularly of women, children and the elderly had to be ensured through effective governance, he said.
