The family members of the four associates of Veerappan whose mercy petitions were rejected by the President, are yet to receive any official communique.

Relatives who live in Marthalli confirmed to The Hindu that they learnt of the President’s rejection through the media. So far, no government official or police had visited them.

Superintendent of Police of Chamarajanagar district Rajendra Prasad said that they received the communication of the mercy petition being rejected from the Home Ministry, and the jurisdictional police in Kollegal was making efforts to trace the family members.

According to Mr. Prasad, Madaiah’s son, who was reportedly staying near Hanur in Kollegal taluk, had committed suicide some years ago and there was nobody at that address.

The police were trying to locate the families of Bilavendran, Gnanaprakash and Simon, he said.
